Based on feedback from teachers, parents, students, and district staff, Fremont Unified School District has updated its homework policy. The revised policy was approved by the School Board on January 30, 2019. Click to see the updated Board Policy and corresponding Administrative Regulation.
The fifth grade homework plan is aligned with the latest revision of the Fremont Unified District Policy 6154. A summary of that policy can be found on the Glenmoor School and teacher websites. Objectives: Through homework, students will learn how to develop effective study habits.

Homework Policy At Mattos Elementary School homework is an integral part of the educational program offered to our students and is assigned on a regular basis. Parents and teachers should help students to become more self-directed, self-disciplined, and independent learners to improve immediate learning as well as long term academic achievement.
Illuminate Home Connection for State-Required Assessment Student Score Reports, Attendance, Schedules, Enrollment and MORE! The Fremont Unified School District will soon be rolling out a component of our student information system, the Illuminate Home Connection parent portal, that will allow you to access more information about your student from home.
Homework is an integral part of our educational program at Vallejo Mill School as well as District policy. Out of-class assignments are provided to extend and reinforce the learning that takes place in the classroom, enhance study skills, and help students develop independent work habits.
Homework will be assigned daily which will be due the following day. Students will be assigned homework between Monday to Thursday and this will be up to 40 minutes a night. Homework will usually include Math, Literacy or Science or Social Studies. ALL assignments must be written neatly and legible by the student with their name and a heading.
Homework folders will be sent home each week on Monday and are due back completed on Friday morning when the kids enter the classroom. Please sign the top of the page to indicate that you have reviewed the homework for correctness and understanding with your child.

As Fremont Unified's only Science Magnet, Mattos Elementary offers your child the opportunity to transfer from your home school and enroll in the Science Magnet program. Admission is based on available space. You will need to fill out a Science Magnet Application at your home school when you register.
